Lokanta Grill’s long-awaited Walnut Creek opening

Pleasanton’s popular Lokanta Mediterranean Grill is finally throwing open the doors of its long-awaited Walnut Creek restaurant.

On Monday, July 10, partners Dogan Ozdogan and Muhammet Culha will bring their inventive mix of Turkish-Greek-Californian fusion dishes to downtown’s Locust Street.

That means you’re likely to see traditional faves such as spanakopita and grilled shish kebabs mingling with beet salad and roasted branzino on the same menu. Other Mediterranean entrees bring in touches of Italy (chicken thighs baked with a marsala cream sauce and served with polenta) and Spain/Portugal (paella with mussels, prawns, chicken and Portuguese sausage).

You’ll even find an Indian influence in the savory-sweet Talas. For this dish, executive chef Culha braises chicken with carrots and celery, wraps the mixture in phyllo dough and bakes it. The massive triangle is served with a mild coconut-curry sauce, shredded apple and currants.

The expansion comes five years after they launched their first enterprise on Pleasanton’s Main Street. The duo had met years ago while working at a restaurant called Pera in San Francisco, then decided to venture out on their own.

Details: Lokanta will open for lunch service at 11:30 a.m. July 10 at 1524 Locust St.; www.eatlokanta.com.
